Steve Freund Brings Blues Trio and Chicago History to Local Music Studio

Benicia, CA (PRWEB) June 24, 2008

Blues guitarist Steve Freund will visit 851 Music Studio in Benicia. Freund will play a guided guitar tour of the evolution of modern blues with roots in country blues and a touch of 40’s jazz.

The idea for a concert/informal lecture was the idea of 851 Music Studio owner and guitar instructor, J. Shelby. Shelby said he wanted to create a special event where students and musicians could experience music and have a conversation.

Guitarist, producer and bandleader Steve Freund, praised by Rolling Stone for his “masterful, no-nonsense guitar work” relocated to the West Coast following 18 years as one of Chicago’s most respected musicians and currently lives in Vallejo.

Freund moved to Chicago from New York City in 1976 and began his education in blues playing the role of second guitar behind Hubert Sumlin, Lee Jackson, Homesick James, Louis Myers and many others. He spent two years working with Big Walter Horton and Floyd Jones.

In 1978, he became Sunnyland Slim’s main guitarist, playing just about every gig with the piano legend until the time of his death. Freund became the consummate piano accompanist working with Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Walker, Henry Gray, Erwin Helfer, David Maxwell and many more.

He will bring his music and stories to 851 Music Studio. Freund considers himself a “keeper” of the history of the Chicago blues and looks forward to sharing an afternoon playing and telling his story.
